Why buy a designer watch?  What makes it different from a regular watch? There are a lot of reasons.

A brand name means a lot to people.  They pay exorbitant prices to exhibit such name in their watches. Wearing a Rolex is one example.
Cartier, Patek Philippe and other luxury brands exude awe and admiration.

Second, designer watches are made with the finest materials. Platinum, yellow gold, white gold, pink gold, and titanium are used.

Thirdly, they are made with fine craftsmanship and by skilled craftsman.  It can be said that no two handmade wristwatches are exactly the same.  One luxury watch takes almost ten months to complete.  Total targeted number of this model to be produced:  30 watches.

Fourth, limited editions are made. To make a watch more attractive to rich buyers, only a few are made. For example, a rare model from a famous watch maker has a production run of a grand total of 10 watches.  Currently the most expensive watch from Vacheron Constantin costs 1.5 million U.S. dollars.  There are only 7 of these.

Fifth, the designs are unique and trendsetting.  Watchmakers pride themselves in their originality, creativity and authenticity.  Even the straps are made from the finest leather or metal overlaid with precious stones.

Sixth, owning a designer wristwatch is a way of displaying and showing wealth and status. One watch covered in diamonds with micromechanical technology perfected in its movement costs a whooping 1 million U.S. dollars.  This will really say the buyer has arrived – only one was made.

Designer and luxurious watches are supported with documents – the original papers which state the date of manufacture and serial numbers. They are sure to increase in value through the years; hence these papers are proof of genuine craftsmanship.

A regular watch on the other hand is mass produced in factories.  They use standard quality materials and maybe available in many variations of one exclusive model. Although they are attractive and functional, the primary reason they are made is to make the company competitively profitable.

Designer watchmakers have successfully made their products more than just wristwatches.

My second favorite item is a designer watches and my husband can tell you about that.  Every year for Christmas my husband will get me a new watch because he knows that is one thing I will always want.  Currently my two favorite watches are my Fossil and DNKY watches.  They are light weight and are great for when I am dressed up or in my casual clothes.
